Gata Festival in the Village of Khachik
The uniqueness of the Gata Festival lies in the fact that Khachik is a border village, and since 2014, it has successfully hosted the Gata Festival, undeterred by its proximity to the border. Each year, around 3,000 visitors from Armenia and abroad attend the festival.
The festival has secured a special place among Armenia’s annual cultural events. During the celebration, the largest gata (traditional Armenian pastry) baked in Armenia is presented to guests. This gata grows in size every year, and in 2017, it was officially registered in the Dutsazni Record Book as the largest gata by diameter.
The festival is traditionally held in September, during which local residents present their harvest and homemade goods. For many years, the Arpa Environmental Foundation has actively supported the festival, contributing to tourism development and economic activity in this remote border village.
